Gypsy
by NYTP Staff

You can watch out Patti LuPone at Gypsy, the wallop packing revival and award winner, played at St. James Theater of New York. Patti LuPone, the legend, plays as dangerously passionate Momma Rose in the show. The powerhouse actress, as a musical cult goddess, offers her audiences plenty of brass, winking sexiness and notes. The latest incarnation of the 1959 fable of vaudeville is directed by Arthur Laurents, 90 years old. July Styne has attained his artistic zenith in Gypsy. Lyrics are composed by Stephen Sondheim. The pretty young body of Minsky dancer thrills the audience. James Youmans has created the sets and Martin Pakledinaz has designed the costumes. Patti LuPone, the major performer, plays as a misguided Mama Rose, another magnificent monster in Gypsy. Her performance is backed by the deluxe band, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. LuPone display her inborn talents in the noteworthy comic musical theatrical event.
