Prospect Park
by NYTP Staff

Prospect Park is a premiere destination for visitors and residents of Brooklyn. The park was designed and constructed during 1865 to 1895, by Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted, the Central Park masterminds. The aquatic features of the watercourse include a 60 acre prospect lake, Lullwater, the Ravine, Swanboat Lake, Pagoda Pond. Located near the Nethermead, the Pagoda Pond, hosts many species like sweet pepperbush, swamp azalea to perfume the air in the area and offer habitat for birds. The wetlands emerged as a result of the park design combined with the ice age glacial terrain. As a functional green space, the park is popular for its manmade watercourse or wetlands and trees of Brooklyn’s indigenous forest. The sprawling 585 acres contain a zoo, an urban area Audubon centre, a band shell, a carousel, an ice rink and many recreational and athletic facilities. Every year more than eight million visitors enjoy the benefits of the beautiful Prospect Park.
