Alley Pond Park
by NYTP Staff

Alley Pond Park, the second largest Park in the Queens, is known for the view of geological past, colonial history and the present conservation efforts. The Park, with its glacier formed moraine boasts of numerous natural features like saltwater and freshwater wetlands, meadows, forests and tidal flats which create a unique ecosystem and support plenty of bird life. Glacier Formed moraine is a ridge of rock and sand formed more than 15,000 years ago. It is believed that George Washington took the well traveled passage in 1790 while visiting the Long Island. The site was acquired by The New York City on 1929 for the purposes of maintaining a park. The park is also the venue for New York’s high ropes adventure course. Alley Pond Park Adventure, a lost cost adventure and outdoor education program teaches canoe, use of compass and fish in a natural setting. The Park offers excellent amenities like playgrounds, courts, fields and barbeque areas.
