Top Excursions Outside of New York City

New York offers great destinations outside of the city as well. You can take day trips and explore the equally breathtaking surrounding regions.

 

Long Island - One of the best places to go when you are on a trip to the city is the Long Island. There are beautiful long beaches where you can engage in a plethora of activities and have a great time.

 

Jersey City - This is located across the Hudson River. It is the second largest city of New Jersey. It is a colorful and diverse city with a number of shop and restaurants. You can take the PATH trains to reach the place.

 

The Palisades - To the western side of the Hudson River there are cliffs that rise very high. These are called the Palisades and rise from 300 to 500 feet. These cliffs extend from the northern end of the Jersey City till Nyack, New York. There are many view points, camp sites and walking trails that are situated along these cliffs. 

 

Fire Island - It is the summer resort island that is situated off the coast of Long Island. The place makes for an excellent day trip.

 

Hoboken - You can also visit this small city in New Jersey while you are on a vacation to the region. The best way to explore the great architectural buildings is by walking on foot. It has wonderful selection of some of the best bars and restaurants. You can get great views of Manhattan from this place.

 

Jersey shore - This is situated a few miles to the south of New York. The shore extends for close to 127 miles and there are a number of public and private beaches that are located along the shore.  There are innumerable activities that are held there and you are sure to have a fun time while you are there.

 

Princeton – This is a quiet place ideal for long walks. You can also visit the Princeton University that is situated there.
