Soho & Tribeca
by NYTP Staff

Soho is cited as a premium turf where not much is left to be developed. It stretches out from Houston to Canal Street. The community here saw a recent strange change of crowd and the neighborhood is now bustling with lots of young couples, wealthy singles and empty nesters. This might explain the recent upsurge of downtown stores. Even the famous Bloomingdale’s is right down here. The crowd loves to pour out on weekends and Soho today has an estimated 4 museums, 250 art galleries, 100 stores and over 200 restaurants.

Tribeca – that is a short name for the Triangle below Canal – borders Soho and Lower Manhattan. This is a hot destination, especially for the food lovers who can’t just get enough! It was once a distinguished industrial district with lots of warehouses. Noted as one of the trendiest neighborhoods of New York City, it has many industrial buildings converted into residential plazas. The warehouses have been modified into loft apartments. The neo-Renaissance White Buildings, Powell Building and the New York Telephone Company are just examples of this great architecture. Another famous aspect of this place is the Tribeca Film Festival which was founded to celebrate New York as the major movie making center in America.
