Greenwich Village
by NYTP Staff

The West Village, as it has been nicknamed, is a total escape from the normal grid structures that feature on every block of New York. Resembling a small European city, this place is the perfect place to get away from the tall buildings and bustling crowds. You feel in perfect control of life with plenty of sunlight that shine on the shorter buildings, secret courtyards and small gardens that are situated between the town houses. The Greenwich Village is a favorite hideout of many musicians, writers and other artists who like to be left out of the crowd, in the lap of nature.

Greenwich Village was a village settlement during colonial era that stood out for its narrow, crooked streets and old houses, foreign restaurants, quaint shops and offbeat night clubs. Today however the significant Washington Square that lies in its center is dominated by the New York University buildings and the Washington Arch. It also homes the beautiful West Village museum and the Bleecker Street. Greenwich Village soared in popularity during the Beat Generation and it is the center of many important leading plays that became popular over the years. This place is nothing less than a perfect museum of ancient art, culture and heritage, that keeps most gaping for more!
