East Village
by NYTP Staff

Lying in the borough of Manhattan, the East Village consists of several smaller neighborhoods and is home to a number of counterculture – thanks to scores of artists, musicians, students, writers and hippies who have moved in here. Diverse community, artistic sensibility and vibrant nightlife – this is what really describes the East Village community which includes many of the top stars from the world of movie as well. The Tompkins Square Park is the recreational heart of this neighborhood that is witness to most of the artistic revolutions here. The East Village also still consists of many remains of the original tenement buildings.

Birth place of many cultural icons and movements, the East Village has many beautiful sights to offer. The East River Park, the Tower of Toys, Ukrainian Museum and the St. Marks-in-the-Bowery Church are a few of the wonderful places you need to visit while you are here. With a rich hub of museums, libraries as well as performance and art spaces, the East Village is a delight for most lovers of art. Offering you a wealth of insight into the history and culture of this diverse village unit, the East Village neighborhood of New York city gives you a little of both – the punk as well as the immigrant history.
