New York City

I would use this same hotel if I ever came back to New York !!! It is in a great location for everything and the staff is so helpful and friendly. The hotel is old and quaint. Perfect for your trip to New York. It is very safe to walk to where ever you need to be in the evening. So very close to Times Square. Thanks again!!!!!

Just returned from 5 nights at the St James - we chose to spend less on accomodation so we had more for shopping etc so we knew we would be getting basic accomodation. The hotel was clean, the bedroom and bathroom very clean, towels changed every day etc. Staff generally were not over friendly but one man helped us out a couple of times and was friendly and helpful. The position was excellent for Times Square and I would definately recommend the 2 deli's next door - good food at reasonable prices. Our room was at the front and it was noisy and particularly bad from the large truck which seemed to come in the early hours of the morning reversed and then kept the engine running for 30 minutes. Overall good value for money and I would use the hotel again.

This hotel is in great location. But it has a lot of problems. My room was in the 2nd level. The window was broken. The street was too noisy to sleep. The garbage pick up was between 2am and 3am and that truck was there for a long time with all its engines running! The room was small and bed was uncomfortable. If you are on a business trip (as I was), or looking for a romantic gateaway, this is not a good choice at all.

After reading a lot of the reviews, I really was expecting the worse when we booked this hotel. But this hotel was a very pleasant surprise. First, you can't beat the location to Times Square, Subways, Rockefeller Center, Irish Bars, Broadway, etc. The bed was rough but we spent so much time outside of our room in didn't matter. Our hotel room was surprisingly clean. Both elevators worked which was surprising. Staff was cool in a New York kind of way. Downside is you have to leave your key when you leave the room ever time, but for the most part, the staff was very accomodating. Also, you can hear everything from room-to-room. When we go back to New York, we'll stay there again.

We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived the hotel as the reviews did not reflect the true hotel. We were staying on the 12th floor and there was no noise. Staff were very helpful and friendly and staff even took our bags to the hotel. Room were basic but very clean and were cleaned every day. Only complaint being no safety deposit box. Hotel was ideally located. I would have no problem recommending this hotel and I will definitely be staying there next year when we are going on our annual shopping trip to NYC.

If you are looking for a reasonable hotel near Times Square than this is a bargain. The location doesn't get much better. The hotel clerk was a bit rude. It seems that you have to leave your key whenever leaving the hotel and he would scold you rudely if you forget. I noticed this on my arrival as he was chewing out a Brittish woman. My room was small and not terribly comfortable but it was clean and the hotel overall reasonable. Overall, this was a decent and safe hotel and good value for the price paid.

The St James is a great hotel for the money. Very comfortable beds for sleeping, and that is all that you want a hotel for with everything else to do in New York City. Great location!

This is a great hotel if you are visiting NY and wish to be in a central location. Price is very reasonable given its location.
