Filthy, dirty and unhealthy conditions from the lobby to the room are the environment of the hotel. The washroom was absolutely disgusting, the shower tub did not drain, there was peeling paint, and mildew over much of the wall around the tub and sink, and exposed pipes sticking out from the wall. The room was small with old, mismatched second hand furniture, the desk chair was broken, the door lock was hard to use, the rooms are not carpeted and echo for sounds and noises. The halls smelled musty and incense was burning to mask the smell. There are permanent tenants who live there and they are noisy and rude, and if you encounter one, they are scary individuals. We arrived late and stayed one night and then walked away, the only upside was it gave us a story to tell for many years to come on how we survived a night at that spooky place. Do not make the mistake of staying there. Book Now!

The hotel had great decor in the lobby and the hallways. It had a very cool trendy theme. Great location to good bars, clubs, and restaurants. Easy walk to big attractions (times square, rockafeller center, ect..)The room we stayed in was clean but not anything to be excited about. However the whole atmosphere made it worth it. I would suggest this hotel to anyone. Book Now!

I was nervous after reading all the negative reviews, but we actually loved it. There were some minor issues, but compared to our last stay in a neighboring hotel this place was okay. Yes the hotel is old and the place is funky with tons of artwork, but our room was huge. Nice curtains, cool art deco furniture. BUT the hot water took forever to reach our room so actually wasted a ton of water. TV did not get every channel clearly, but only watched some tv in morning while getting ready to leave. So over all we enjoyed and the location was perfect between two subway stops.Book Now!

Larger room than I was expecting. Clean too. Only one problem. The staff told me that the room was noisy as it faced 23rd street-no problem. It's just that I wasn't expecting the noise to come from the room itself. You see the radiator klanged to beat the band and woke me up! The engineer came and fixed it the next day--so problem solved! The room and the hotel had charm. Good Staff. Book Now!

A NYC Classic

From the intriguing long time inhabitants to the short term rockers,Hotel Chelsea is a true slice of past and present NYC. The rooms were extremely quiet, clean and comfortable. This is not a 4 star hotel, but it easily excedded my expectations. There is a great Spanish restaurant downstairs, another classic experience. The staff were great and attentive. Book Now!

Not Reecommended

The room was very tiny and the bathroom was a tight squeeze. The first three showers during our three day hotel-chelsea were freezing cold and only barely warmed up by the end. A call to the front desk about this situation was met with a response of telling us to let the water run for ten minutes. Even after that it was still cold. Not recommended. Book Now!

Such a cool place, the atmosphere and history are fascinating. Our room had a kitchenette with gas stove and was very comfortable. The roof garden is fantastic and unique.Book Now!

The history is incredible as is the art and architecture. Very friendly staff, within walking distance of everything we needed. Try East of Eighth on the same side of the block for great food, and great garden dining and imbibing. A coffee maker would have been nice , since we had a kitchenette, but what we learned is you just need to ask and they probably have it. At least three times the size of our next room in town. Would recommend to anyone who wants to experience art and cultural history (without even leaving the building) and some of the residents were a hoot. Felt extremely safe there, and baggage hold is always a nice feature.Book Now!
