Lovely location, though the hotel is historic, it was very nice. Be sure to note that the bathtub doesn't drain on its own, you need to pull some mystery lever on the outside of the tub.

Small, clean comfortable room in older mid town hotel with a colorful history and a resident hotel cat in the lobby. Room window overlooked utility equipment however we spent little time in the room so this was of little issue. Hotel is in an excellent spot in midtown close to theaters, lots of restaurants and other tourist sites. Would return for the excellent price we got.

Amazing Historic Hotel Stay

We visited the Algonquin hotel when I was 10 years old. (1970's). They had a dress code - so my dad had to borrow a tie and jacket. This has stayed with me for years, not to mention the historic value of the Round Table, Dorothy Parker and the overall decor. At Christmas this year I found a wonderful deal to actually stay at the hotel which was renovated within the past year. Not to sound like as snob, but It was a bit disheartening to see guests in blue jeans and white tennis shoes in the lobby. I was hoping for a more "upper crust" atmosphere, but, heck, my wife and I were not dressed as appropriately either - times have changed. The renovation kept all of the aesthetics true to the period yet updated all the furniture, bathroom fixtures, wallpaper, and paint. It was quite quiet given it's positioning in the city. You could hear the elevator "gears/tread" every so often but not enough to ruin the mood. The bed was one of the most heavenly I have ever slept in - hotel or other. I think the sheets must be 3000 thread count. The only other downside was the heat. It was blazing and no way to turn it down. The concierge and service desk had a kind and dedicated staff. I mustn't forgot to mention the house cat that lives in the lobby. She/he is gorgeous and very, very friendly. We met some friends in the Blue Bar. I was a bit unimpressed with the staff service there but it was still worth it. I HIGHLY recommend staying here.

The Algonquin has the convenience of its near Times Square location and the wonderful ambiance of its historical character. The staff were friendly and helpful while the main room offered a warm and comfortable place to read a paper (or the "New Yorker") and have a drink or meal. There's a "give to get" with an older hotel like this one. The rooms are small and the place lacks the glitz of much newer hotels - but it has the welcome style and feel of an earlier age. We highly recommend it.![]()
