At least it's clean

There's no sign, no check-in desk, no elevator, no services. I had to call hotels.com to figure out how to get in. My room was a fourth-floor walkup. The building is in the process of converting from an apartment building to a hotel -- the "rooms" are small apartments (some of the apartments aren't yet converted to "hotel"). Book Now!

It was a cute little space, however the room wasnt ready until 3:30. Checkin time is at 3:00. The bathroom floor was absolutely disgusting, covered with dirt and hair Book Now!

Walk up

This is a property in transition. The unit we stayed in was like a studio apartment, something a business traveler might choose for a longer stay. The manager was very helpful and nice, and helped with all our luggage, which was great because we were on the fourth floor and there was no elevator. That's something to be aware of for this property - it is strictly a walk-up. Book Now!

Decent for the money

You're not visiting New York to spend a lot of time in your hotel anyway. The suite was clean. Don't be alarmed by the sticky-notes on the glass door when you check in. Ask Joey for extra blankets and towels before he leaves upon check-in.Book Now!

Slanted floors and no phones

Forget wireless internet service, this hotel didn't even have a phone inside. Thankfully there was a pay phone nearby. There's no office, no lobby--buzz to get in. It's a shady place. AND, the floors are sloped! Great if you're eight years old, I guess. Book Now!

Know what to expect

Calling this a 'hotel' or even a 'suite hotel' is not really accurate. If you are planning to stay at the 52 Suite Hotel expect that it will be like borrowing a friend's apartment while he is out of town. The room I stayed in was a typical 4th floor walk-up studio- very similiar to the apartment I rented in Manhattan several years ago. There is no sign to let you know you are at the right place, no front desk, and you have to knock at the front door when you arrive and hope someone working inside hears and lets you in. The staff is friendly and the apartment was clean with a very comfortable bed and nice flat screen TV. There is a small, but nice kitchen area that includes a stove, refrigerator, and microwave. The bathroom is typical of what you'll find in most small, NY apartments. It is clean and includes nice towels- but expect the hot water to come and go especially in the morning when everyone in the building is showering-- my Manhattan water supply was the same way. The location is great if you want to be in a more laid back, residential area away from the huge crowds and noise you'll find near the larger hotels. There are great, less well known restaurants and easy access to the subway in this neighborhood. There is good shopping on Lexington, Third and Second Avenues, and Bloomingdales is only seven blocks away. If you want to live like a real New Yorker this is a great place. If you are looking for a more traditional hotel experience with more staff and service, this is probably not what you are looking for. If I was returning to the city on business or to visit friends, I would definitely stay again- I love this neighborhood and the price is right. If I was going to bring my small children with me, I would be more likely to go with a hotel that has the more traditional features- elevators, door men, concierge, pool, etc. Overall, I had a good experience, and I would definitely recommend the Suite 52 to people familiar with the city not lookiBook Now!
