The much discussed opera by Anthony Minghella is about the popular Puccini tragedy. Madama Butterfly offers striking stage pictures presented in the house. The show is an opportunity to catch the performance of Patricia Racette. The cast includes Roberto Aronic as Pinkerton, Dwayna Croft as Sharpless, Maria Zifchak as Suzuki with Patrick Summers. The opera consists of three acts and is based on ‘Madame Butterfly’, a short story by John Luther Long. The opera is also based on Nagasaki events occurred in 1890s. The opera was first premiered on 1904 at Milan. The opera, set in Nagasaki, was a huge success. Tamaki Miura, the Japanese opera singer shot to international fame with her role as Cio-Cio San. Her statue, together with Puccini is found in the Clover Garden of Nagasaki. With standard operatic repertoire, Madama Butterfly ranks among the most performed operas in America.
