The ‘Gay rap opera’, Bash’d, was an award winner at Toronto Fringe Festival. The 65 minute musical-cum-concert puts a spin on gay rights, and delivers radio worthy hip hop. Dramaturgically and musically the show is firm in its aggression. The show is about a gay Canadian couple. As their marriage is stained by violence, Feminem (Nathan Cuckow) and T-Bag (Chris Craddock), the narrators, discuss the case of young lovers. The duos play the characters in the story by voicing perspectives from staunch homophobia to radical activism. While Feminem and T-Bage debate the hot issue in political terms, the show’s lyricists, Cuckow and Craddock leave the decision to narrators. The sweet natured chemistry of Thesp makes the love blooming. All the facets of gay rights are debated seriously before the audience.
