Federico Garcia Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba is directed by Cathy Shaw. It is a classic play about the tale of a women’s household reserved by domineering mother. The fascinating Bernarda Alba is unique as it is played only by women although they are manipulated by men in so many ways. Bernarda returned from her second husband’s funeral along with five daughters. Being a brutal matriarch, a stern, she orders her daughters to mourn the death for 8 years. Each girl has distinguishable characteristics. Angustias is unattractive and is the eldest child of first husband of Bernarda; second daughter Magdalena is like her mother; third daughter Amelila is bookish and have feminist ideas; fourth daughter Martirio is quiet but resentful and the youngest Adela is immature but most bewitching. The entire show steal the rapt attention of the audience.
