by NYTP Staff

Socrates Sculpture Park is situated in Long Island, New York City. It was built by the sculptor, Mark di Suverno in 1986. This sculpture park is open everyday from 10 am to sunset. It is run with help of their supporters and volunteers. Government grants are also made available to them.

You can see very good sculptures in the outdoor sculpture garden. It is a wonderful sight which you will not see in many other art exhibitions. Some unusual pieces of are shown there. A big piece of wood with some unconventional art work on it partly submerged in water will attract anybody’s attention. Sometimes you may not be able to distinguish between the art work and nature’s work. Anyone will be surprised by the diversity of ideas of the artists.

Training is given to the upcoming and aspiring artists. Without the public support this institution cannot sustain.  By organizing this type of a great institution Mark di Suverno is doing a great service to the art. The Park also encourages interaction between the artists and the general public so that they will get an insight into lives and works of the artists. For visitors it will be an entirely new experience.
