Radio City Music Hall
by NYTP Staff

It truly deserves its name – the Showplace of the Nation- as Radio City Music Hall spreads out over 12 acres in New York City’s Rockefeller Center. Since its grand inauguration in 1932, the hall has been a place of delight for all tourists who throng in here. With over 5,000 seats for its spectators, it was one of the largest movie theaters in the world then. The interior of the theater was declared a national landmark. The Grand stage that resembles a setting sun has a great advanced elevator system. Even the world’s largest theater pipe organ can be found here – the Mighty Wurlitzer – which is part of a serious concert instrument.

The Radio City Music Hall’s prominence dwindled over the years. Yet in keeping with the interests of preserving this monument of art, Radio City was renovated and opened in 1980. Currently run by the Cablevision, its main focus is on concerts and live shows. Do not forget to catch the Rockettes live every year at Christmas, which has become more of a New York tradition now. The Hall features as a venue for many important shows including the Daytime Emmy Award ceremony, MTV Video Music Awards and the Grammy Awards.
