New York Aquarium is located in Coney Island occupying fourteen acres of land near the sea. It is the oldest, still running aquarium of the United States. This aquarium was first established in Battery Park. It has over 350 species of aquatic wild life. This aquarium was opened in 1895. The first director was Dr Tarleton Hoffman Bean, who was a famous fish expert. It was in 1941 the aquarium was moved to the new location.
The aquarium gives an insight into the wild life in the sea so that the viewers can have a better understanding and sympathy for them. The seawater creatures as well as the fresh water life from around the world are exhibited there. The lovers of nature and also those who wish to learn about life in the unknown zone of this earth will be thrilled by the living things here.
Many of the visitors who are not familiar with walruses, sea lions, jellies, stingers and the likes will be wonder struck by the diversity of the life on this earth. It will give an understanding that the lives of all the living things are connected with each other. Good research is conducted by the authorities and the information is passed to the visitors.
