Chrysler Building
by NYTP Staff

New York is the proud city that houses an Art Deco skyscraper, the Chrysler Building which was built in 1930 at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 42nd Street. When it was built in 1930 it was the world’s tallest building, sadly it couldn’t keep that title for long. In 1931 the Empire State Building was built stripping the title of the world’s tallest building from the Chrysler Building. It was designed by William Van Alen for the Chrysler Corporation to house its headquarters.  The Chrysler Building holds the record of not having any of its workers dying while building it.

Being considered a masterpiece of Art Deco architecture the Chrysler Building has been a landmark of New York for decades and can be seen in many Hollywood blockbusters. Although the Chrysler Building has only 77 floors it has been in the limelight for quiet some time now. The lighting by night is what defines the Chrysler Building as an icon of architecture. The Chrysler Building has been voted as the most favorite building in New York by engineers, architects, historians and scholars gaining 90% of their votes. Going to New York must also include visiting this piece of art called the Chrysler Building.
